What were your motivations for starting a transformation? 
 

My expectations were high because I had come across UP many times in men's fitness and health magazines over the years and had read about the ‘famous’ Joe Warner 12-week transformation in particular.

Following my ACL surgery after a football injury, and over a year off from doing no exercise, I had put on weight and felt low on self-esteem and confidence. 

The motivation was to get back to where I was before my injury body-wise and, in particular, gain confidence back in my knee.

 

How were you feeling physically and mentally before starting with UP? 
 

Physically, I felt unfit and sometimes out of breath going up escalators getting the tube. Where I used to walk up them briskly, I was now just standing still like everyone else.

Mentally I had become much less confident in myself and had low self-esteem. 

 

What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation? 

 

My diet was okay and the same as before my football injury. The problem was I had not been able to go to the gym three or four times a week, plus playing football on a Sunday as before.

I was not doing any exercise whatsoever, hence my weight had gone up by 10kg and my waist size from a 32 to a 36!

 

What kinds of things were eating and how did they affect you?

 

One change I did notice was I was tending to have more sugary coffees and snacks to help with the afternoon energy ‘slumps’ at work.

 

How did your diet and lifestyle change with UP? 

 

My UP trainer left nothing to chance. He told me exactly what I should be eating and when, and got me tracking my food via MyFitnessPal so I knew exactly how many calories I was eating and their macronutrients.

He also made it clear that due to my desk job, I needed to get walking every day and incorporate at least 15,000 steps a day into my daily routine.

What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy levels?

 

I was getting fitter with every session that passed. After only two weeks, the pain that I had always felt in my knee following surgery had disappeared.

As I got stronger and leaner, my energy levels were much higher, and I was sleeping better; hence I was less tired. 

No more afternoon ‘slumps’ at work, so no unhealthy snacks.

Outside the gym, I had much more energy and wanted to go for walks to the park on the weekends, whereas before I'd just stay at home and lounge on the sofa.

 

How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle? 

 

The first session was an eye-opener for me. I was sat in the changing room for 20 minutes getting my breath back and wondering what I had signed up to! 

It was clear you came to UP to train hard and get results. It then got easier session after session. 

Your body adapts and recovers the more sessions you do, and you become fitter and more confident – plus you start seeing results pretty quickly which inspires you to train harder.

What were the most important things you learned? 

 

Transformations are not just about training. It's a culmination of everything as a whole.

Your nutrition, the walking or exercise you do every day, your training at UP, and just as importantly, your mental attitude and self-discipline.

My trainer would keep me focused, encourage me and give me a kick up the bum when needed. 

He made sure I kept my attitude and self-discipline on track to achieve my goals and better them.

He was always on call and was there to guide me every step of the way.

 

How has doing this transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward? 

 

It's made me realise that you get back from life what you put in.

I put myself first in terms of my priorities for a few months and made drastic improvements.

I feel so much more alive and full of energy; I wish I had done this years ago. 

It's been a real education for me, and I’m now inspired to keep going and progress to the next level!
