Zuzana Loses 12kg After Years of Weight Loss Struggles
by UP Fitness January 15, 2018
Nothing is more demotivating than training hard and eating well but not being able to lose weight.
Zuzana had tried for years to lose her excess weight but despite her hard work in the gym, nothing seemed to work. It was getting her down.
The 42-year-old, who suffers from autoimmune thyroiditis, wasn’t even able to lose 2kg after five years of trying, eating salads and doing HIIT classes, running, and circuit training.
But now she has lost nearly 12kg in 15 weeks with a bespoke training and nutrition plan tailored to her body.
“I’m much happier now, I must say; I feel more confident. I can’t really imagine not training now.
“Training is a huge part of my life and it is addictive. Transforming my body was just beginning, which I didn’t even know, but now I want more.”
Here Zuzana explains how she finally managed to lose the weight she’d been trying to shed all these years…
What were your motivations for starting a transformation journey with UP?
I was always active and for the last few years I had started to train with weights and tried different workouts like HIIT, running and circuit training, but nothing really happened.
Clearly, I was fitter, but I didn’t see any of the changes on my body that I was expecting.
I knew I needed a change and I was looking at some other gyms in the area as well – UP came up and I thought I would give it a try.
Basically, I was after a change, and I’ve never felt as ready as I was when I started PT at UP
How were you were feeling physically and mentally before starting with UP?
I’m a very optimistic person, but I had quite a difficult few months behind me and I was mostly tired, couldn’t sleep most nights, and stressed from personal and work life.
I wasn’t overly happy in general and it was frustrating seeing no changes even though I was training hard and eating well.
What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation with UP?
I thought my lifestyle was healthy, but clearly eating salads Monday to Friday and then eating whatever I felt like at the weekend wasn’t the right way, even though I like to cook and bake healthy dishes.
How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started your transformation with UP
When I got my meal plan for the first time from UP I was surprised at how easy it looked and it was very easy to follow and I enjoyed it.
The biggest challenge for me was to step up every morning on the scale, as I was avoiding this for years, and also to track my food in MyFitnessPal.
What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy levels?
I was looking forward to every training session and I wanted to push harder with each rep.
Sometimes I was tired, of course, but I never even thought about quitting or stopping.
Even though I ate less food I had much more energy, I was sleeping better, my skin cleared, and weight started to drop week after week.
I almost felt like it was a miracle as I was unable to lose even 2 kg over the last five years. I was feeling stronger and fitter every week.
What had been the biggest mistake you were making on your diet before and how did you change it at UP?
The biggest mistake was that I would be eating “healthy” foods like protein bars, or protein balls, raw cake, etc., but I wouldn’t track my calorie intake and also I didn’t think eating protein with each meal was that important. Tracking my food intake is the best way to keep me on track.
With proper guidance from my UP trainer, I realised that simplicity is the key and tracking food intake is the best way to stay on the track, eating healthy food that benefits my body and keeping you me for longer.
How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?
I like to start my day active, so training early in the morning was the best option for me. It gives me energy for the day and strength to deal with daily tasks.
When I started my PT sessions at UP, I was finishing one job which was a very stressful time and very challenging mentally, so training was the best therapy.
What were your results like after your transformation?
When I started training at UP I didn't know what to expect and what my actual goal was. I knew I wanted to lose some weight and get fitter, but I honestly didn’t expect what I achieved.
With my condition of autoimmune thyroiditis, I thought it was impossible to lose weight and change my body.
I really wanted to lose some body fat, but as I said earlier, I thought I had tried everything, and nothing worked.
I was over the moon seeing the weight dropping every week and people noticing how I was changing.
What were the most important things you learned during your journey?
I think the most important thing I've learned was to understand calorie intake, tracking my food, and patience.
I had great support from my trainer; he was checking my energy levels, and he was checking on me even when we didn’t have a training.
I felt comfortable to ask him questions, and he was always there to answer and help.
Training-wise, I’ve learned how to stay motivated and always change a few things around to make every workout more intense and more interesting with better results.
I wanted to make my PT proud of me, so I tried to stay focused and disciplined and motivated.
Would you recommend UP and why?
I would definitely recommend UP to people who want to change their lifestyle and diet, and to improve their health and fitness.
After my transformation, many people have asked where I trained and how they can achieve their own transformation.
I know it requires patience, determination and lot of hard work, especially outside of the gym, but with the great support of a PT, it is really easy and achievable for everyone who really wants to change.
