Time Is Running Out

Motivation

I vividly recall the blind panic of missing my flight home to London from Reykjavik.

That was 13 years ago, and when I think about it, I can still feel the emotions coursing through my veins.

What I can’t do is articulate a good reason for why I felt so bothered.

We are all fixated on artificial deadlines. If you miss a plane, there’s a pretty big chance that it’s no big deal.

If you’re late for a dinner date, then your other half will forgive you if she likes you. If she doesn’t like you, then you’ve got bigger problems than occasional tardiness.

As human beings, it seems that we are hardwired to fear that we are somehow missing out as we bounce from one set of urgencies to another.

The advent of the technological revolution of smartphones and social media has only made this feeling much worse.

We all need to get a grip.

Chasing deadlines and sacrificing our agency to the priorities of others is a fast track to an unfulfilling existence. Many of us, myself included, need a regular wake up call to get off that hamster wheel and prioritise whatever is most important for our individual selves.

Because here is the thing: Time is running out.

The one non-renewable resource that you and I possess is time.

Every day is one less day in your life to do the things that make you better.

Time is running out to be the person that you want to be, which means that today should be the day that you finally do something about it.
